The author, a Jungian analyst, makes depth psychology more accessible by describing his fictional analysis of someone much like his younger self. He is able to describe what he is trying to accomplish as analyst, and the internal and external reactions of his "client" to the process. The book helps clarify issues that come up in the give-and-take of therapy, and the limits of therapist as healer. It also effectively shows how the work of analysis is really done by the client, rather than the therapist.
