Well, if nothing else this couple certainly had an interesting life. It was amazing how many famous people Sara interacted with, due to her husband being a U.S. Senator before the War. And it was interesting how many years after the war, both Roger and Sara interacted and were friendly with people they hated during the War of the Rebellion, as Lincoln called it.

Roger was a fanatic anti-Yankee before the war and helped lead his state, Virginia, into rebellion. Yet many years later, he accepted the end of the Confederacy and got on with his life in New York, with close ties to former enemies.

Makes you wish so many present day neo-Confederates would do the same. After all, that war has been over for over 150 years.
