This romance seems to be a little different sytle than more modern romances (even about the same period). A young woman is branded a witch and banished from England to France. A handsome sea captain seems to be conjured from her dreams. They have an instant, secret, and short lived affair. He mistakenly believes that she betrays him and he sails away without her. After a number of years, the king commands him to find this woman. Once they are together again, they realize that their passion and feeling have only gotten stronger. They sail back to England. It appears that the young woman may be an illegitimate child of the king. They go to stay with the king but evil forces are at work to try to tear them apart and to get the woman away from the king.
