The storyline has a lot of potential but develops very slowly in places. Lots of back and forth with overblown angst from the hero. Characters could have been great, but were rather flat so it was hard to get very invested in them. Even had some interesting secondary characters but they were never well-developed. It was a shame. There were some good scenes, especially towards the beginning on the pirate ship. But it ultimately "missed the boat" for me. I was so glad when I got to the end and could just put it down and call it "done".

Starts in Paris in 1799, brief setting in early United States - Boston, and England
After reading the back cover of this book, I was surprised to find the time period it was actually set in. It's storyline begins in what could also be a great story if set in an earlier era.
I did however, enjoy the storyline just the way it is. There are twists and turns, surprises and good romantic chemistry between the hero and heroine. Not a typical regency, but not in any way did it seem overly dramatic.
I don't know if it is part of a series or not, but I felt that it could stand alone just fine.
