This is a collection of tales that have been extracted from several books of stories, primarily "After Dark" and "Queen of Hearts." Some were also collected in later publications: "Mad Monkton and Other Stories" and "Little Novels." They comprise an interesting cross section of his short fiction. Some are truly tales of terror, some of the supernatural, but most are merely stories that fall short of either category. I found them to range from dull to highly entertaining.
