I would recommend this audio version only to someone who already knows Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. This abridgement does a good job with the mystery but leaves out a lot of the character explanation and development. If you haven't read any of the other books in this series, I'd suggest you start with something else so that you can enjoy the full measure of these great characters.

Excellent book especially for Tony Hillerman fans. Unfortunately it was read by the author and although his writing is excellent, his reading skills leave something to be desired. This is one of the earlier books with Joe Leaphorn still working.
