Garnet Lacey is a witch who has quit magic cold turkey. An explanation of why will be given in the book, but Garnet feels like a junkie in need of a fix. She also has an inner Goddess, Lilith, who has taken residence in her womb, a destructive creature that threatens to surface every time Garnet has strong emotions. Lately Garnet finds herself less able to control Lilith, and things get turned upside down when Sebastian walks into Garnet's shop. Garnet realises that Sebastian is dead, and soon she also realises that there are Vatican witch-hunters after him. Things get even more complicated from there. A thoughtful plot and interesting characters, both major and minor. The ending is left open for more potiential problems for Garnet in the second book (Dead Sexy), such as how exactly is her ex-boyfriend and vampire Parrish supposed to fit into things? Enjoyable read. The only issue I had was Garnet's propensity to do really rash and not thought out things over a charming man. Her hormones keep getting her into trouble, I found myself exasperated sometimes.

This book is amazing! It held my attention from page one and it only got better. Garnet is a witch who finds herself coping with sharing her body with the vengance demon Lilith, and trying to make up her mind weither she wants Parrish or Sabastian both who are very sexy Vampires. I can't wait to read the next book in this series and Mrs. Hallaway has been put on my favorite author's list at the top.

Good first book in what looks to be a series. Some unanswered questions at the end that I hope are answered in the next book.

Strong characterizations and a substantial plot.

Garnet Lacy has moved to Madison, Wisconsin, and is managing Wisconsins premier occult bookstore, Mercury Crossing. Her move to Madison was precipitated by the murder of all the members of her coven the prior Samhain (Halloween) in Minneapolis. Garnet, as usual, was late and when she arrived she the Vatican witch hunters (The Order of Eustace) had killed the other 11 members of her coven.

Garnet had summoned the Goddess Lilith upon the discovery and killed the Vatican agents. Then with the help of her former vampire boyfriend, Daniel Parrish, shed buried the bodies of the Vatican agents in the lake at Lakeview Cemetery and the home where her coven had met was burned to the ground.

Garnet fled to Madison and vowed not to practice witchcraft again. This, despite the fact that Lilith still resided within Garnet and her efforts to not practice witchcraft were difficult to suppress as Lilith still resided within her. She has even changed Garnets eyes to purple.

One day, Sebastian Von Traum, comes into Mercury Crossing to order an obscure root. Garnet could see from his aura that he was definitely dead and definitely handsome.

Garnet finds herself involved with Sebastian and soon learns that the Vatican agents are after Sebastian. And, just to complicate things, her former vampire lover, Daniel Parrish, comes back into her life. Now she has to save her new boyfriend from the Vatican agents and keep him convinced that her old boyfriend is just that an old boyfriend.

I read this book for my book club and really enjoyed the story. It moves at a good pace and as Ive never read any vampire/occult novels, the author does a good job of explaining the occult and vampire lore.

Blond hair, blue eyed Witch Meadow Spring goes on the run when her entire coven is killed by the Vatican. She dies her hair black (her eyes turned violet when a Goddess came to indwell after saving her and helping her seek revenge), and she goes back to using her given name Garnet Lacey when she decides it's time to relocate and start anew.

Unfortunately, her new vampire boyfriend and her ex vampire boyfriend are as different as night and day. =) The Vatican is hot on her heals...and those of lover boy. His mostly dead wife won't stay buried. And his son has developed quite the relationship with the Vaticans.

Did I mention the Goddess indwelling her is Lilith? Oh, yeah, and she's decided she doesn't want to cohabitate any longer.

What's a girl to do?

This book was wonderful!

Tall, Dark & Dead By Tate Hallaway

I have been really liking semi-romantic comedies about witches, vampires, and werewolves. So this series was suggested to me.

Recovering witch Garnet Lacey manages Wisconsin's premier occult bookstore. Her move to Madison and a huge beauty makeover was the murder of her last coven by the Vatican hit squad known as the order of Eustace. Garnet walked into the massacre and summoned the Dark Goddess Lilith to destroy the Vatican agents.

Her new job has fringe benefits, like getting to know customers like sexy Sebastian Von Traum. The only thing missing in his fit, bounce a quarter off those abs, magical man, is an aura. Which means he's dead. And that means trouble. So what's a girl to do if she's hot for a dead man walking? Run like hell-and take full advantage of the nights

I enjoyed this quick read and paperback swapped the rest of the books, which I cant wait to read.

The line between magic and sanity is very thin - that's why Garnet Lacey quit, cold turkey. But it's more addictive than she thinks and her inner goddess Lilith just won't let it go. A quirky interesting tale of witch meets vampire.

Very good read. Cute and fast paced. I am anxious to see how things progress with Garnet as far as Lilith goes. I also want to see where the romance goes with Sebastian. Very different with twists and keeps you wondering until the end.

This was a very good book. The story is about a witch sharing her body with a Goddess who falls for a vampire/ alchemist. I enjoyed all the characters especially William. I found his change from Druid to Goth to witch very funny. I love garnet. I thought she was good natured and caring. Garnet and Sebastian as a couple are great. Lilith, wow, I did not see that coming. This book comes highly recommended.

New author for me and an interesting beginning to what appears to be a good series. I liked Garnet and Sebastian and the other supporting characters and hope to see more of them in the next book. I wish there had more about the Vatican Witch Hunters as I found them intriguing and needed to understand why they were the villains. I could imagine in my mind a whole other twist with these characters as the heroes.

Anyway, the book was a pretty quick read and I enjoyed that the author didn't get hung up in petty details. Hopefully the Lilith issue gets resolved in the next book as well.

This book starts out very interesting. Garnet Lacey used to be a practicing witch. But one day she was late for the coven meeting and showed up to find the Vatican Witch Hunters had found them and killed everyone. Some how Garnet channels a very pissed off goddess who kills all of the Hunters. Since then Garnet has been hiding in plain site - running a new age store in Madison. However things are starting to heat up again.

Despite the interesting premise, the characters aren't interesting. All of them seem quite flaky, except for one of the "bad guys", who actually seemed interesting. At about 1/3 of the way through the book we're only starting to get introduced to more plot than "bad guys want to kill us". And at that it's a pretty distant threat.

The other problem is that the tone of the book feels like a sitcom while there are actually some pretty dark stuff, like the fact that the main character has a goddess with a very short temper inside of her, and occasionally Garnet loses control and then people die. This book just couldn't hold my interest.

I ordered this book from PBS from the reviews this book looked as comedy based on the supernatural. I liked the basic premise of this book but I thought it would be more fun. As to laughs..I found none. I think I smiled once or twice; not even a chuckle. I wish I could say more positive.

Overall, this book was neither good nor bad, just typical The author's writing style is fine for the genre. It did suffer from the fact that all the characters tend to sound the same in the dialogue. The plot is basic witch meets vampire and they are chased by baddies thinking they are good.

It was great to finally come across a fiction book using Witchcraft as a main theme where the author really knows her stuff! I was getting fed up with all the "poseurs" out there who introduce the subject of Witchcraft into their books simply to sell more copies, while not knowing the first thing about it. Of course, the author did introduce some additional fantasy elements to keep the story interesting as well.

We have Garnet, a practicing Pagan and Witch, trying to escape her past and the Vatican Witch Hunters who killed her old coven. She works at a New Age shop, where she meets Sebastian, a fellow WitchAlchemist actuallywho's also a vampire. It becomes a race against time as they try to evade the the witch hunters on their tail, help Sebastian remake his "formula", and Garnet tries to keep her invoked Goddess Lilith in check.

Were this book not reserved for someone else, I'd have hung on to it to share with some of my other witch friends. As it is, it left me anxiously awaiting it's sequel.

enjoyed this paranormal fantasy featuring Garnet Lacy. I liked how she gradually learned to share with her friends her past and how she gained internal strength to confront the goddess Lilith. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Dead Sexy.

From the back: The line between magic and sanity is very thin. That's part of why I, Garnet Lacey, quit cold turkey. Never touch the stuff. No exceptions. But magic is so addictive and my inner Goddess, Lilith, is hard to resist.

This is the first book in the Garnet Lacey series; there are five books in this series. This was an okay start to a paranormal romance series involving a witch, some vampires, and the Vatican operatives that hunt them down.

The characters were okay but the heroine, Garnet, really wasn't the type of heroine I enjoy reading about. She was honestly a bit...well...slutty (I know, I know I shouldn't say this but she really was) and seemed a bit confused about why the things that happened to her, well, happened. She made a lot of bad decisions and I get frustrated with heroines like that.

The romance was pretty thin and the sex scenes were poorly written. The paranormal aspects were pretty typical witch/vampire themes. This book didn't shine in either the paranormal aspects or the romance aspects.

The story plot was a bit thin as well and the side characters weren't that well done. My favorite side character was William who is one of Garnet's co-workers; he was way more interesting than any of the main charactersâ¦.which was kind of sad given how little he's in the story.

Overall, while this was an okay light paranormal romance read and an okay diversion, I wasn't really impressed by anything here. I don't plan on continuing the series.
