This book hurt me to read. I've read countless books on the subject of child abuse, including some of the well-known ones and some that aren't well known at all. None have ever been in the vicinity of this book. I don't know if it was the story itself, the authors writing, or something else altogether but this was really painful to read. I kept experiencing pangs of wanting to go find these people who had a hand in making this little girl feel what she did growing up and doing God only knows what. That's not to mention what I'd like to do to her so called "parents." I will most definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys memoirs, books about abuse and redemption, etc. I will warn however, this is NOT an easy read by any means. Another author I recently read and enjoyed a lot is Jane Elliott, author of The Little Prisoner (also a GREAT book!) and on the back of this she reviewed and said "Hard to put down.....I could almost smell the honeysuckle and soda bread but also feel the dread and fear." I couldn't say it any better myself. The writing is such that it brings you directly in without being so detailed it gets boring. This is definitley a story that should be read by many so this girl didn't suffer for nothing.
