I received a book that I marked RWAP (actually 2 problems). Can you tell by the pics here what's wrong with it?

I ask because, my camera is old & for some reason pics are blurry, but I'd like to send the sender of the book pics, because she claims it was fine when she sent it. So I want to make sure she can see what I'm talking about.

Also, the sender wants it sent back to her & wants to send the credits after she receives it. Shouldn't she return the credits first?

Yes, I can see them.  They are blurry, but noticable.

ah yup!  Pages seperating at the binding, and wavy pages?  (ETA: I on second glance I see the water stain too!  More my eyes than your camera even if it is a tad blurry)

Do I win a prize?

Seriously, I can see not noticing the seperation, especially if she didn't read it first, easy to miss just thumbing through.  But the wavy pages?  uh uh, she knew, or should have.

Good luck!

I'm guessing because the blurriness does make it hard to tell exactly what's wrong (although I can see something is wrong) that there is either tearing or separation from the binding and also some water damage. But that's just a guess. The blurriness makes it harder to view although like I said, I can tell there is definitely something wrong.

I think I can kind of tell. Looks like water damage in a corner, and separated pages?

My understanding is that you should get one credit back right away for the problem book, and if she wants the book back, she has to give you another credit. I'd certainly expect her to do it before I sent anything back. Otherwise, you'd really be stuck.

You all pretty much got it. There is water damage to the bottom corner of the last 30 or so pages & back cover. The other pics are of the front cover that was torn along the spine about 2"-3" & was taped back together on the outside of the book.

Thanks guys!!

I would probably consult TPTB on this one. I don't think that she should be asking you to send it back first. Then the excuse could be, "well, I never got it, it got lost in the mail," and then she won't give you either of the credits.

In my experiences with RWAPs, they have never wanted to have the book back. So sorry this is happening to you. Hang in there, though.

leann --

it is up to you whether or not to send the book back, but if you do, the sender should send you a credit to cover the cost of postage, in addition to the one for the book being damaged.  and yes, you should have those in your account before you mail it back.

do not contact TPTB about this. they already have enough to do and will not get into your RWAP issues.

main issue:

first off you should marked it RWAP

she should give your credit back but is not required to.  if she doesn't give a credit back for this damaged book, marked it unresolved.

if she gives you a credit, mark it resolved.

a separate issue:

if she wants the book back she needs to either send another credit to cover postage or actual money to cover postage/fees.

if she does not give credit or postage and continues to hound you after you ignore her pms, then you can contact TPTB and inform them that she is harrassing you.
