This is seriously corny, but I thought I'd share this testimonial I just sent. The book transaction I describe was way cool!

SENT TO: Feedback

Dear Team,

I've been in the Swap since January, very pleased with the system, but I've waited to send a testimonial until I had just the right circumstance to talk about. Now I have! I hope you can use the following in your Testimonials feature. (It's completely true.)

You'll notice I use the phrase "the Book Swap" in my testimonial, to refer to our wonderful system here. I've been using the phrases "the Book Swap" or "the Swap" to refer to PBS, ever since joining.

I want to tell you my reasons, because they are also a little bit of Feedback:
----PaperBackSwap is long, cumbersome, and as you guys have written in a couple of places, a misnomer;
----reiterating the URL is important, too, so I did that;
----as for PBS, like any acronym or abbreviation, it's opaque: its meaning is not clear to everyone reading it;
----PBS is also cold and awkward-looking--another widespread problem with acronyms: "USA" is less appealing than "America" or "the United States";
----"the Club": need I spell it out? exclusivity? ancient racist/sexist/anti-Semitic institutions, many of which still exist today? Even just the implication of being "in" or "out," as in a clique, doesn't play well vis-a-vis attracting new people.

So I hope you can humor me, and let me use my little phrase "the Book Swap," since right after it is "PaperBackSwap.com."

------------------------------------------------------

I recently swapped for "Surrealists and Surrealism 1919-1939"--a beautiful art book with illustrations on every page, including many in dazzling color. I wrote to the woman who sent it, saying, 'Thank you so much--I've been slowly working up to a full-out immersion in Surrealism, and this is exactly the book I need at this moment. Nice condition for a large paperback, too!'

She wrote back and said she'd used it in one of her art classes in college: 'I did love that book, I just think it's gorgeous. It makes me very glad to have found it a good home. I hope it brings you much joy as you learn all about the history of such an exciting art period.'

What a great feeling, to hear that!

This is what the Book Swap is all about. PaperBackSwap.com is more than barter: it's community. It's about taking off the shelf a book that's given you fun reading, long looking, things to learn--a book you still cherish. You're ready, though, to share your book with someone else--someone who's as eager as you were, to dive into it with brand-new enthusiasm--until they, too, have spent enough time with it, to pass it on to the next person.

Loved the testimonial, that is just how I feel. Guess I'm kind of corny too. :)
