This is one of Carol Finch's earlier books and it shows. It is 550+ pages of sexual gymnastics with a bit of a story thrown in before more sexual behavior. (I don't have a problem with sex scenes; but I expected a bit more plot). After a while, even they (the sex scenes) seemed over the top. This book was incredibly redundant; as a reader, I groaned every time Shianne was described as having a lush body.'
Wade Burnett is a handsome (of course) womanizer who has been sent by Shianne Kimball's father to help her run a huge ranch until his return (the Civil War has been over for a time but Mr. Kimball has not returned). This hits Shianne, who is absolutely gorgeous (of course), the wrong way because she's been doing fine, thank you very much.
Shianne does it all: rides better than most cowboys, shoots straight, rounds up (and brands) calves with the best of them. An Indian is even in love with her and he takes her to his war councils.
Wade likes to love-em-and-leave-em; Shianne falls for Wade rather quickly and doesn't want him to leave her bed. The other big rancher of the county demands to marry Shianne and wants her to set the date.
Well, that gives you a taste of the plot. I thought it was a rather poor effort by a fine writer.
