This is the story of Tess Carey who loses everything except her life at the hands of the Commancheroes. They savagely attack a small farm and kill Tess's father and husband. They destroy the farm and take Tess.

Texas Ranger John Hawkins is a half-breed and the meanest man tracking thieves and murderers. He doesn't seem to understand the idea of fear and truly embodies the Texas Ranger motto of, 'one riot, one ranger.'

Tess' grief does not end with the kidnapping and she desperately tries to return to normalcy in El Paso. However, the citizens are not believing she was untouched. Tess must again turn to John Hawkins for help.
