Reading Stephenie's thread got me thinking about authors I love and why I love them. I gravitate toward quick moving plots with great dialogue and snarky kick ass characters. But I have to like the authors "voice" to really get into them. For me it comes down to how they put words together. Sometimes phrases from their books stick in my head. Patricia Briggs (From Bone Crossed I think) (describing Adam) "He had a dimple. Just one. That's all he needed. Diana Gabaldon (from Outlander) (while a rumple is imminent) "I didn't need to speak the language to understand the meaning. Stand up and say that again looks the same in any language." Why do you love your favorites? Last Edited on: 3/19/15 3:57 PM ET - Total times edited: 3 |

1. really great worldbuilding, or 2. makes me laugh out loud OR cry, or 3. can't stop thinking about it when I'm done reading, or 4. really interesting ideas (this one is usually sci-fi). |
