I loved that this book was structured around two characters who have the chance to see how their life would change if different choices were made by swapping lives. I have read Alan Brennert's historical fiction books and am a huge fan of those books. Although this is more of a science fiction work requiring a leap of faith to believe, as always his writing is a pleasure to read and the characters are well developed. Highly recommend this as a fun escape from the world's reality.

Richard Cochrane is a successful Broadway actor. This is the life he chose. But somehow it has gone sour, and he longs for what he might have had.

Somewhere there is a Rick Cochrane who did not leave his hometown to pursue stardom. He married his childhood sweetheart, settled down to raise a family. But he is on the verge of madness, consumed by a deeply hidden rage.

Both are suffering from the wounds of decisions that cannot be unmade.

Or can they????

I loved the two historical novels by this author and I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying this one as well, even though it is so completely different. I guess great writing is great writing regardless of the subject matter! Hopefully, he writes many future novels in this reality- I look forward to reading more from him.

As with the other two books by Alan Brennert I've read, I loved this book. With the first chapter, the weirdness begins, and you are hooked. Richard/Rick are the same person who at some point took diverse paths in life, neither one knowing of the existance of the other's life. Each begins to long for the choice he didn't make, and through some quirk of "time and chance", they are able to trade places and experience the other life. Each is challenged to maintain the charade by getting to know the other's job, friends, habits. Each learns through their experiences that the grass is not always greener on the other side... How they personally change and affect the lives of those around them in their respective lives is great reading. Highly recommend this fascinating story! D.
