Being up in the middle of the night
is like being on a time island.
The world shrinks to the spot
you are occupying
Sounds take on that white noise that
water has; distant cars like distant waves
The very same space at another time
is open and vibrant and connected,
that is now tiny, isolated
and distant from other men.
Islands are pleasant at times...

Very nice. After reading this, I thought--"I know just what she means".
