Has anyone else noticed how horrible the editing is in many Tor Fantasy books lately? I'm reading Starman by Sara Douglass, and while the book is terrific, the editing issues are horrendous! There is literally no punctuation in 1/3 of this book! Words are misspelled, and every once in a while I have to go back several sentences to figure out what's being said and in what context. I've found spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes in almost every book I've ever read, but this is the worst! The last 5 or 6 Tor books I've read have had more than their fair of mistakes, but this book is head and shoulders above those. I'm trying not to let it take away the pleasure of reading a well crafted story, but it's so distracting at times I have to stop and come back to it later. Anyone else finding this happening in a lot of Tor books? |

It's been a while since I've actually picked up a (recent) book published by Tor, but I don't think it's just them, I've noticed poor editing in books published by other companies as well. Most of them spelling errors, and while it irks me, I still refuse to let it ruin a good story! :D |

There's really no excuse for most spelling errors - were they too lazy to even run a spell check? I haven't read any recently published Tor books lately, either, so I don't know. I suspect they have cut back on editors in hopes of saving money, and are using some sort of computer program. But that's just a guess. |

I haven't read much Tor lately either. But, I have noticed the problem with Baen Books SF. While not a huge amount, there are certainly some spelling and basic grammar errors, and even a few minor continuity issues. It seems to have increased since Jim Bean's death last year. |
