THE WAR WAS BEGINNING TO GO WELL FOR THE ALLIES. EVERYWHERE THE GERMANS WERE FALLING BACK, EVERYWHERE EXCEPT IN THE BLACK SEA.

While this is another good piece of naval fiction from Reeman, I do not think it is one of his best. Perhaps, it is because he had it taking place in the Black Sea with his British motor torpedomen cooperating with the Russians. Still, I thought he did a good job with the Russian characters.

It was a slow build and, at one point, I thought about not finishing it. However, like many of Reeman's novels, the last 50-75 pages really take off.

If this is the first one you read, do not give up on Reeman, but try a couple of his others first.
