Trigonometry An Analytic Approach Author:Irving Drooyan, Charles C. Carico This sixth edition of 'Trigonometry: An analytic Approach' is designed for use in a one-semester or one-quarter course in trigonometry. The organization of the material permits flexibility in courses that differ in the time available. — In this edition, increased attention is given to the circular functions and their graphs, and to applications o... more »f periodic phenomena.
Appendix A includes a review of topics in algebra and geometry that are needed as a background for the course. Students are referred to a section of this review when the material can be helpful in understanding a particular trigonometric concept.
The following pedagogical features of the previous editions have been retained.
*Approximations to function values are obtained primarily by use of a scientific calculator. However, a discussion of the use of tables is available in Appendix C. The tables include measures of angles in radians and in tenths of degrees, as well as degrees and minutes.
*Emphasis is given to obtaining exact function values of pi/6 and pi/4 and integral multiples thereof.
*Examples that precede similar exercises in each Exercise Set supplement examples in the textual discussions.
*A discussion of significant digits, rounding-off procedure, and scientific notation is included in Appendix B.
*All Exercise Sets include basic exercises designated A. More challenging exercises, designated B, provide the instructor with flexibility in making assignments, depending on the time available and the objectives of the course.
*Subject matter is continually reviewed through the use of Chapter Summaries and Review Exercises.
*A detailed summary of the important topics in the text, inside the back cover, provides a convenient reference for students in completing assignments or studying for examination.« less
