A Trouble Of Fools (Carlotta Carlyle, Bk 1) (Audio Cassette) (Unabridged)
A Trouble Of Fools - Carlotta Carlyle, Bk 1 - Audio Cassette - Unabridged Author:Linda Barnes, C. J. Critt (Narrator) It was slightly past noon on the Sunday in September when Margaret Devens came to Carlotta Carlyle's door with all the determination of an Yorkshire terrier. Carlotta just assumed that the little old lady with the steady gray eyes and the powder frosting hair who blinked at her through the peep hole was either out to save her soul or sell he... more »r a load of bull. Elderly blue-hairs like this one weren't generally in the market for private detectives.
But Margaret Devens was definitely looking to hire; her younger brother, an Irish cabby, had disappeared, and she wanted someone with a bit more subtlety than the Boston police force to bring him back home. A "Missing Persons" rap wasn't Carlotta's idea of legitimate work, but there was something about the tough-skinned Miss Devens that reminded her of her own very much missed Aunt Bea. Underneath the flowered dress, the woolen shawl, and the orthopedic shoes, they wore armors of plated-steel.
Carlotta's investigation takes her to the streets as a moonlighting cabby, and into the arms of an old flame, Sam Gianelli. But when Margaret is severely wounded after a break-in, it looks as if there's a lot more to this case than a wayward brother. As Carlotta gets closer to the truth, she finds herself traveling the pub route with a bunch of blarney-loving geezers whose devotion to the Emerald Isle has gotten them involved in something a lot more dangerous than politics.
