So I had about 300 unread books. What do I do this week-buy more freakin' books. I hit Value Village twice and bought a bunch of books really cheap (like .50 ea).  And then I hit Half-price books and spent $75!  Although I bought DD some stuff in that as well.  I also have a bid pending on 20books on ebay. What is wrong with me??  I have a cross country move coming up-I need to stop!

LOL I have the same problem...well, maybe not on quite as large a scale because I only have about 50 to read...but yet I find myself at my local used  bookstore buying more books. Just what I need more books...but if I didn't get them RIGHT THEN, they may not be there when I go back and I may NEVER find them again!! I can rationalize with the best of them.

This is why I only go to Goodwill about once a month.  I always come home with a sack of books!  Even though the TBR pile is overflowing.

I went to the library a week or so ago to get a book they had on hold for me and they were having a book sale that I knew nothing about! Of course, I had no choice but to go and look, and buy a few while I was at it. You're not alone, Mary, although DH would be really mad if I spent $75 at one time on books!! I buy little by little, then he never knows ;-P

Oh add me to the list, although my used book store is cheap, cheap, cheap, and I walked away with 12 new romances, 2 non-fiction that were on my WL and 1 novel that just looked good for $8.  How could I pass that up?  I couldn't!

What are yalls favorite used books stores  or places you go to get good deals on used books. I have been going to half priced books..but the one nearest me has a limited selection and i still think the price being only half off can be too much when you consider the condition off some!...I know people who get books so they can post them esp. if they know of people who might be looking for them..but i was wondering if people have luck at goodwill, library sales..etc.

In my little town, there is no used bookstore or half price bookstore.

I find books at Goodwill and we have a used a bit consignment shop next door to that.  Our library does have a small used bookstore in it, staffed by volunteers and only open 3 afternoons a week.  I hardly ever get there.

Other than that, I buy an occasional box lot of books on Ebay.

I have a Value Village near me that sells their books super cheap. The series romances (Temptation, Desire etc..,) are 2/.99.  The others are only like $1-$2 depending on the book condition, size and how long they've had it on the shelf. They also give you ever 4th book free.  I love Half Price books. I have 2 somewhat near me and they have a huge selection.  They usually have racks of books for just $1.  I also have a used book store in town that I frequent alot.

Another way to sneak a new book into the house is cruise the book aisle in the grocery store.  A book or 2 in the weekly shop won't even be noticed.  Not unless your husband goes with you to shop like mind does.  Don't get me wrong, shopping together is a habit we picked up when we lived in Europe.  Over there, it is a two person job.  I love his company, but every now and then I like to go by myself    ;-))

Well dear hubby can't complain about my books. He has about 100 bottles of wine and about 400 cigars.  At least my books can be packed up by the movers.  His stuff has to be transported by us and taken into the hotel everynight while we're traveling. But it turns out we're moving to CA instead of MD.  I live in WA so it's only a couple states instead of cross country.  But I've bought even more books since I started this thread. It's a sickness.

I do that as well.  I have over 300 books but still go to the store and buy more (the new releases that come out).  I don't know why when I have so many to read.  I need to start digging into my TBR pile so I can add more to my bookshelf.

I'm so on that boat too! I have a HUGE TBR "pile", yet I always feel the need to visit my 2 local used bookstores and the used book section of my library on a weekly basis. I've found awesome stuff at the library one (I got What's A Ghoul To Do? by Victoria Laurie and Body Movers by Stephanie Bond there, each for a quarter! Among lots of others) I also like using my Barnes & Noble discount and lately Border's has been doing 3 for 2 offers with really great books (like the Yiddish Policeman's Union and lots of Jasper Fford... sigh) I'm seriously addicted!

Those multi-book lots on ebay are dangerous especially if there is just one book in there that you want. I am overwhelmed by books but I still look on ebay. You can sometimes get some great deals on a lot of books.l I only buy the ones that have decent shipping rates.

I haven't purchased anything on ebay in ages, but I've fallen off the wagon and purchased two book lots in the past week. Help, PBS has made me relapse! *sigh*

If each book costs more than 50 cents (including shipping), then I won't even start bidding.  Luckily, that limits the choices, but that doesn't mean I don't check for new listings every darned day.

I have over 700 books in my TBR pile... it's downright overwhelming, yet if I see a book sale I MUST buy!  I've also been known to bid on e-bay lots, very dangerous.  I've got one seller who only has books in excellent condition and he has great lots.  It's very very hard to resist.  I think I have to go check his page now.  LOL  I love buying books :)

I went to Halfprice books again this weekend. Ugh. I found 5 books that are on WL waits here that I'm interested in reading.  But then I bought 10 other books. All of which I could have gotten on here w/the 40+ credits I have. But I was there and I wanted them and didn't know if they'd be available here or not. Ugh.  If the store wasn't so far away from me I would've just written the titles down and ordered them on here.  I blame it all on HP books for not having a store closer to me.

I am with you all!  I have soooooo many books that I need to read and yet here I am getting more.  One of my problems is that I have 1 of the books and then find out it is a series and have to have them all and read them in order.

I have also done the Ebay thing.  They stacj up fast that way but hey, at least I will never say  "I wish I had a good book to read"

The only USB anywhere near here is a Half Price Books that never has anything I'm looking for, so I've quit even going there.  It's got to be the only bookstore in the world I can drive by without a qualm.  Fortunately, there are lots and lots of towns around here with good FOL sales in the spring and fall.  I manage to hit most of them and squirrel away books for the rest of the year.  I only go to garage sales that list books and occasionally find treasures.  For new books that I just "can't " wait for, I either go to Borders with a coupon or order from Books A Million or Barnes and Noble online. Fortunately I've never worked up the nerve to order on Amazon or bid on anything at eBay.  My husband hopes it stays that way, I'm sure.  And then there's the monthly order at eHarlequin.com.  And STILL I constantly request books here at PBS.  But hey, if I get up some day and all the bookstores are suddenly closed for some reason I can't even imagine,  I'm ready!!
