This was good without being overwhelmingly good. Tough sledding for ALL the main characters, whoa -- I could have used an upturn in mood at the end. Though the last scene was affirmative enough to make me cry a little. The storytelling--and the intersection of the main characters threads--was more deft than the prose craftsmanship. Decided to share rather than keep because there just weren't enough moments in the writing that make you catch your breath with amazement and shared experience.
