The Tutor by Andrea Chapin is part history and part romance. It creates a fiction around one of the lost years of William Shakespeare's life, with the focus on his writing of Venus and Adonis. The book is well researched about the historical time. The romance and characterizations are less plausible and come to a predictable conclusion.

I am not a fan of historical romance and read this for book club. It was slow going for the first third of the book. Some of the characters could have been developed more, it seems the more developed characters were boring and the intriguing ones were only in minor roles. I do applaud Andrea Chapin on her first novel, all in all, it was a good book.
