This was a good, heartfelt Nicholas Sparks book. A little depressing at times and the timeline moved a little slowly sometimes but overall it was an enjoyable book. The main character and his daughter were both interesting characters.

There is no denying that Sparks is an outstanding writer, and that's what drew me to this book.

A father who loves his daughter more than anything in the world is placed in the position of making the most difficult decision of his life: should he let his daughter go?

This is the story of a young man who fell in love, got married, and had a child before his world began to crumble around him. My main ministry is divorce recovery, and I've been divorced myself (though I'm married to a wonderful man now). Sparks' descriptions of the struggles, range of emotions, and a family torn apart are not without foundation. Infidelity, I would say from my experience, is the number one reason for divorce in this country; when children are involved, it is devastating to them on a major scale.

This story is not action-packed, sci-fi, space opera, murder mystery, or anything like that. It is the story of a man, his family, his wins and losses, and a life lived through happy times, tough times, and sad times. But it is worth the read. I had a difficult time putting it down because I believe Sparks wrote this from his heart. You'll experience a wide range of emotions, but you'll find that love conquers all in the end.
