Just posted this in CMT but thought I'd put it here too.

There is a new Flat Rate Priority box out.   It measures 12 X 12 X 5 1/5.  There is also a new priority flat rate box the same size that is JUST for APO/FPO addresses.       You can cram a LOT of stuff in a flat rate box and send cheaper than would normally cost you for parcel post.   At least that's been my experience when I've sent boxes to Iraq.

Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box
Any mailable item sent in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box provided by the Postal Service, regardless of weight (up to a 70-pound maximum) or destination.  $12.95 for material sent in a Priority Mail large flat-rate box to domestic destinations

Priority Mail APO/FPO Flat Rate Box
Any mailable item sent to APO/FPO destinations in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box provided by the Postal Service, regardless of weight (up to a 70-pound maximum) or destination.  $10.95 for material sent in a Priority Mail large flat-rate box to APO/FPO destination addresses

Cozette, that's good information to have. I've just joined BooksForSoldiers.com and I'm ready to start sending packages to Iraq and Afghanistan. Sounds like the APO/FPO flat rate box is just what I need. Thanks for posting about this.

Cozette, thanks for sharing the info and I occasionally send boxes to a friend's son at an APO address so this will be helpful.

Patrick, thank you for the website, BooksForSoldiers.com.  I've been meaning to look into this and here is the web address from you.  Couldn't have come at a better time.

I saw your other post Cozi and ordered a case of these boxes for my mom.  She sends care package to soldiers overseas and I though the special APO boxes would be easier for her to pack.  She's forever bulging out the regular flat rate boxes too much.

you can send books via media mail to apo/fpo addresses just in case anyone wasn't aware of that.

I send books via operationpaperback.org but will have to check out the other site mentioned here

We use these boxes all the time for our soldiers.

They are very handy.

It's not a separate box just for military mail. the same large flat rate box just goes at $10.95 APO/FPO addresses.

I used one today to send some snacks, mags, books and dvds to a section in southern Iraq.  Bummer... it only weighed close to 19 pounds.  I soooo know I can do better than that, LOL.

Are the other 2 flat rate boxes still available or did the 12 x 12 x 5.5 replace the one that is 11-7/8 x 3-3/8 x 13-5/8?

No, the large flat rate box is in addition to the smaller ones.

New rate on Monday the 12th for the smaller flat rate boxes is 9.80. The large one stays the same, 12.95 domestic and 10.95 for APO/FPO. The flat rate envelope is going to 4.80.
