A fascinating account of a man who went undercover for four years (1938-1942) to investigate and expose American individuals and groups who supported fascism and Nazi causes. John Carlson, an alias, began his hunt before the war after an incident personally affected him.

At times the author almost seems paranoid about groups plotting to overthrow our republic, often with the help of foreign governments. However, even today, there are still people and organizations in this country who would like to see our government change into a form acceptable to them. In a number of cases, I have met these people myself.

Today we have people, on both sides, who would like to see other people and groups denied their rights. It is a difficult time for our country. None of us should view this conflict from the sidelines. Even if all we do is voice our support for the values America was founded on, even if it is stating "You are wrong," when someone in a small group states a falsehood, that may be enough.

As Edmund Burke stated in the late 18th century, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

Another good book on this subject is The American Axis by Max Wallace.
