I agree with a previous reviewer that this book was somewhat difficult to follow. The translation was okay, but there was a lot of subtext in the book that I didn't get as an American. For example, the translation pointed out when various characters were speaking Finnish or Sami instead of Swedish and translated their words, but although I could guess that there was some significance about who was speaking what language when, I couldn't always pick up on the social nuances that were being conveyed. It was interesting as a portrayal of a quirky, small community in far northern Sweden, but not the most satisfying mystery I've ever read, and certainly not a standout among Scandinavian crime novels.

I found this book too difficult to read and understand what was going on with the characters. Perhaps on second read it will make more sense.
