On her way to her new family home in Scotland 5 years ago, Victoria had something happen to her and she hasnt been able to overcome her fears. The incident has made her a recluse and she has been a prisoner in her home, too terrified to take a step out of the door. Her mother and sisters head to London for Christmas leaving Victoria behind with 2 of their servants when a man who has been shot gets brought into her home. Victoria is forced to care for the stranger while he recovers and the two form a friendship and an attraction.

Jonathan has his own issues. London is still talking about the scandal that rocked his family and he is more than happy to be in the company of a woman who enjoys him for his person, not his title nor his money.

I really enjoyed this story. I love that the reclusive spinster sister creates scandalously beautiful undergarments to sell and support her family. I love that Jonathan and Victorias relationship is based on friendship and builds at a natural and rather romantic pace. There is a scene on Christmas morning that was so silly yet so sweet and romantic you couldnt help but sigh aloud. These two characters are a perfect pair.

There is some sinister happenings going on in this book and for me, it got a little old. Why no one beat the crap out of the annoying Earl I will never know hopefully in a future book? There is a brief glimpse into the next book at the end of this one and it has me practically giddy with anticipation. I am DYING to know what has Juliette so skittish and running from her friend, Paul.

This was a wonderful historical romance just the right amount of heat mixed in with all the love.
