How can I describe a book that is perfect? Gordon Korman has nailed the angst and interests of 8 - 12-year-olds in this instant classic. It is about a teacher who lost his commitment to teaching 27 years ago when a student stole a national test and sold copies of it for $10/each. When the students scored perfect scores, they went from being lauded to the town scandal. The superintendent blamed the teacher, even though he had nothing to do with the cheating.

Now, all Zackary Kermit wants to do is take early retirement at the end of this school year. But the superintendent has other ideas and is looking for ways to fire Mr. Kermit before he can earn his early-retirement.; One of his plans is to assign Mr. Kermit to a class named SCS-8 (the unteachables). They are a group of students with learning issues and some with behavior problems.

I taught school and spent a few years with special education students. Korman's descriptions of the school administration and students are bang on. It's great to see students work their way out of the low expectations of their school. This is a great story for adults, as well as kids. Enjoy!
