Wow! An amazing book! This is one of those rare books that pulls you right out of the real world and into it's pages and doesn't let you go. It is a humorous, heart breaking and heart mending journey. I savored the experience and I will be reading more of Martin!

I loved this book; my first by Charles Martin and won't be my last. This book is about redemption and revelations but is by no means religious even though one of the 3 main characters is a priest.

It is about picking up broken pieces and moving on and how we as people can help others do just that. Two broken souls put together by one old codgedy priest with a story that will stir your heart and supersede time. The characters were amazing and well thought-out, not necessarily like-able at first but in the end you were rooting for them, especially Katie.

The different settings were so descriptive, you felt like you were there, skimming the bracken water of Florida in an air boat, walking the streets of Paris and eating chocolate croissants and exploring the chateau in Langeais.

At the end of the book I found the Q&A with the writer very insightful so be sure and check that out. Also there is a section, Doc Snakeoil. How entertaining that was and a true look into Mr. Martin....how he came to be as a writer.

It is with pleasure that I recommend this book and hope others find it as entertaining as I did.

I loved this book and can only echo the other two reviews so far.......it is heartfelt and well worth reading. I've also read Where the River Ends, which moved me to tears. Someone told the author he writes like a girl...I say he writes like a human fully in touch with his feelings. Recommended.

I definitely go back and forth with Charles Martin. This one is pretty good. The characters are beleivable and the story is engaging. It's pretty typical of the author: the drama creating, damsal in distress gets rescued by a humble, selfless, handsome, and in all other ways amazing superman. But this one wasn't sticky sweet and it wasn't all or nothing. Both characters helped each other which was a nice change. I hated the end tho when the famous, lives-in-the-limelight woman, blindsides the leave-me-alone-in-the-shadows, boy. And I really didn't like that he threw his entire life and existence and goodness away with the death of a teenager. What??? Whatever. It is a good book. I just hate the end.

Wow! How to begin. I love Charles Martin's books and have read them all. For me, this one fell short of what I expect from him until I was 70% into it. After that point, when he wrote his story for Katie,I couldn't put it down. That was riveting.

As I read the epilogue, I found myself thinking that he should have reread some of the critiques "Doc" wrote to him. It's my opinion that the first 70% could have been told in about half the words.

For me, I continued to read even when struggling, because my motto is "Trust your author". I feel that if you love an author's work, you can trust him through parts that you don't like to get you to the place he wants you to be. I'm really glad that I finished this book, but I hope his next one is better.
