A girl named Margot Begemann who was his neighbor, fell in love with him but Van Gogh rejected her causing her to try to commit suicide. From 1869 to 1876, Van Gogh worked for his Uncle Cent, an art dealer. He spent time in both London and Paris before being let go. Van Gogh started to paint with oil paints in 1883. Vincent van Gogh briefly worked as a supply teacher in Ramsgate, England. Vincent created a total of 2000 pieces of art which included 900 paintings and 1100 sketches and pencil drawings. Vincent van Gogh was a self-taught artist. Van Gogh sold just one painting, The Red Vineyard, during his lifetime.
