Recently, a couple of books I've requested have had the option to view them en route. On the My Account page, on the "En Route to Me" tab, the box that shows my address and where the book is coming from also has an orange/yellow circle with a green checkmark. When I click it, it goes to a map that shows the start and end points with a little postal truck along the way.

How do I set my account so that this shows on books I've sent?

Leah, it's not a setting.  Those members used either PBS - DC or PBS Printable Postage, which automatically has DC.

Leah, that's for Delivery Confirmation.  The person who mailed the book to you used either PBC DC or bought postage through PBS, and therefore the system generated a delivery confirmation tracking number that follows the book.  It won't do that for books you mail unless you buy one of those things through PBS.

It also works with DC purchased at the post office, but you have to go to the USPS website for the information.

Denise, PBS doesn't generate a map for DC purchased at the post office, and you don't get a quick credit for that either.

Leah,

Beth gave you the link and I always use PBS DC now.  I have a rural mailbox so I can just put most of my books I'm sending in the mailbox and fergettaboutit!  Then I can watch the little truck chugging along.  Plus you get your credit right away.  Also if the book goes lost you don't lose your credit.

I had one that I was sending to Vermont.  I live in Michigan.  The book headed west to Milwaukee than on to New York, Massachusetts and finally Vermont.  It took the scenic route.

Sometimes the driver of that little postal truck takes a "Martini Lunch" and drives around out in the ocean too.  I've seen them drive clear to Puerto Rico -- it can be fun to watch :-)

Cheers,
