I liked this as much as the first one, "Velva Jean Learns to Drive." In fact, I think I may have liked it even more. The story took an entirely different path than I expected, based on the first book. I really love Velva Jean's spunkiness and bravado. The author does a good job of expressing Velva Jean's internal voice...her dreams, her fears, her frustrations, her determination. Most of this book takes place during WWII and some of the characters in it were real people. Velva Jean's experience as a WASP is also based on facts. Jennifer Niven obviously put in a lot of research of this era, making for an informative and enjoyable read. I wouldn't be surprised if we haven't heard the last of Velva Jean!

Great book!!! The kind of book that makes you want to know what is going to happen next. When I finished the book and got up the next morning I thought, I wonder what will happen to Velva Jean today and then remembered, there is no more to Velva Jean's story. Oh how I wish there would be a 3rd Velva Jean book.
