I really like Lashner's books, and recommend reading them in order. His protagonist, Victor Carl, is a MOST unusual lawyer and to appreciate where he is in his life in later books, you really need to start with "Hostile Witness" to find out how he got there.

Don't get confused -- this is the SECOND book, which was republished as "Bitter Truth," which I already had. (The words "originally published as Veritas" are SO TINY on the front cover that they are truly illegible w/out a magnifying glass!

I find Victor Carl - lawyer, loser, and hapless hero of all of Lashner's books highly entertaining. If you like your heros to have clay feet you will love carl.
