The village school is a hundred years old and Miss Read, the schoolmistress, is fully occupied trying to recapture the march of those full and busy years under its roof. I love Miss Read! I reread them every couple of years it's like visiting old friends. Even though this story takes place in 1980 it still has the feel of a story that takes place in the 30s and 40s. It's about a small English village Fairacre and the inhabitants who live there. The story is written by a school teacher and she chronicles the daily going ons in the village, at the school and the neighboring town of Caxley. A must read for everybody.
