This was a witty, quick read about a man who wasn't always passionate about dogs. After adopting a rescue, his outlook slowly changes. He sees how drastically different his daily life has become; he frequently faces an overwhelming struggle in his attempt to bond with his dog, while avoiding a sense of failure throughout the process. He learns a lot about himself during the trials and tribulations of pet ownership and also gains a whole new perspective for animals and the way in which they think, feel and embrace their lives, despite the difficulties they often face before they are lucky enough to find their "fur-ever" homes.

How a totally non-dog person gets a neurotic dog and they both eventually develop a semi-normal human/dog bond. This book is both touching and funny. As a dog person, I found the author's insights into dog people quite interesting and his own shocking transformation into a dog person is also interesting. This was an easy and entertaining read.
