This analysis of the Vietnam experience for the American army is of great interest for two reasons. First, it was researched and written before the 1975 defeat, which spawned the stab-in-the-back exculpations, and second, it was written from the inside of the army. The author cannot be accused of using an alias rather than Chomsky.
