A great book if you really care about the comparative timing of Merry/Pippin and Aragorn and Gandalf in the Rohan area (as I did passionately 40 years ago). A lot of maps by JRR that are pretty close to the maps that ended up in the Lord of the Rings. A lot of "original drafts" of certain pages. You'd need to know the published text pretty well beforehand to go through this.
