What a disappointment. I was looking for a taut, intense story of a man going into a war zone to rescue his lover and, from the reviews I read, that's what I was going to get. Reviewers must have all been friends and/or family because this was a book full of inconsistencies told in first person by a self-centered whiner/ex-pilot named Jace.
Example: A friend risks his military career to get Jace off base and to the battle front and driving there- Jace is driving and friend is in passenger seat sleeping- the friend's cell rings (it's on the console). Knowing if he answers it, he could be putting his friend's career down the toilet, instead of nudging his friend and saying "Hey, pick up your phone", this 'military man' thinks "Oh, maybe it's my lover Tomas!" and picks it up. Of course it's the commander.
This was not the first eyeroller in the book or the last. Definite thumbs down.
