During the Wars of the Roses in 15thc England, when Lancasters fought Yorks for the crown, Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, lived in more than regal splendor and exercised more than regal power. It was he who deposed Henry VI and gained the throne for Edward IV-but he returned in strength and crushed the Lancastrians. Warwick's death at Barnet, one of the decisive battles, marked the end of this chapter in English history.
