Intro. on inside of book:

Water play has always been important in the preschool curriculum. Much has been written about the affinity of young children for water, and children have had many experience with water long before they reach school age. They seem to be more interested in water in their preschool years than at any other time in their lives.

Experiences with water naturally belong to the realm of science. Children's concepts about water are being developed whenever materials for water play are provided. The activities in the booklet are planned to develop specific science concepts through water play. The first few activities are exploratory and from a basic framework for later discoveries.
