This story tells about an Indian village in Alaska a long time ago. It tries to tell what it was like then to be an Indian boy, or an Indian girl, living in the village called Anvik. What it was like to be afraid to do the things you had to do to be an Indian. Today there is still a village called Anvik at the place where the Anvik River runs into the Yukon River, and Indians still live there. Theses Indians still love their rivers, hills, and forests because it is the way of their people.
