For those who like their travel memoirs to read like fiction, this book is NOT for you. Alexander intellectualizes her account of her travels to the point where the actual places she visits take a back seat to her rather dry text regarding the literary values of the various sites visited over the course of the book. An interesting account, but not a great piece of writing.
