This book is a charming, light weight tale about a young woman who is overly sensitive about her looks and weight, and very imaginative. She makes up a boyfriend because her Mom is always worried that she won't get married. But then her sister's wedding comes along and she has to produce the boyfriend. Oops.

The book was originally titled "Asking for Trouble." The title was changed when it became the basis for the movie "The Wedding Date."

It is significantly different from the movie, especially as all characters are British. Sometimes the British slang is a bit hard to translate, but not too often.

The movie "The Wedding Date" was based on this novel, originally called "Asking for Trouble." I found this wonderfully funny, insightful and romantic

In order to keep her mum from harrassing her, Sophy invents a boyfriend and now must produce him for her sister's wedding. It sounds like a great premise but the British colloquialism make the dialogue almost incomprehensible. Sophy's hires a rent-a-stud to play her boyfriend and spends the first 50 pages or so in a panic that he won't be able to play the part. She's so bitchy to him that I can't believe he didn't give up. After the wedding, she calms down and the romance starts and the book gets much better. I only picked this book up because I needed a "Y" author otherwise I would have stopped reading this within the first 50 pages. Definitely not an author I would read again.
