I recently saw the movie "The Wedding" on lifetime TV, wondering if there was a book in print. I did some research and found this book (same as the movie) written by Dorothy West and edited by Jaquelin Kennedy-Onais... The scene takes place in a family line in chronological order in vivid, memoriable drama from the hard times and stuggle of the African American slavery up to the 1950's when the Wedding is to take place... It is a prominate family struggle in race, power, and class...a good read, the end was shocking, and it left me wanting more...my reason for not rating it a 5-star...dg

This is an interesting and complex book, exploring a small segment of 1930's (maybe 1940s) black culture in detail. A good read.

A family history beginning with the eldest, already planning her funeral: run-a-way wedding, cruel men, good times and hard times weave a pattern of a family who stay bonded by love. Great story, easy but intelligent read.

Very different from the Oprah Winfrey produced tv movie (with Halle Berry) but I can see the seed from which it began.
