I found this book at the library...it was classified as a romance but it is not your stereotypical bodice-ripping romance. It is much tamer, and could maybe even be classifed as young adult, which is more my speed. :) Set in the post-Civil War South, portions were slow, but it was a generally sweet story with a happy, if a little unexpected, ending. Not an excellent book by any means, but not bad either.

This is a touching story set in the Civil War time. Not my favorite period but this was a very enjoyable book. There is a hint of paranormal, down to earth descriptions of the toils of war and a romance. Overall, it was a fun read.

A rather sweet, calm story about three sisters in the aftermath of the Civil War. They decide they need to expect good things to happen and so work together to sew a wedding dress for the youngest sister. As soon as they begin, this action impacts the people around them as well as their own lives. The conclusion of the story is very satisfactory and even romantic.

I mention that this is a "calm" story because it isn't particularly a tear-jerker even though it has some sad moments and it is "sweet" because they are a nice family and think of others more than themselves. One thing that does stand out are the "ghostly soldiers" they see around their home on a consistent basis.

This was a simple but enjoyable story. There was not a lot of character development and the ending was a little far fetched. This is a good read for a day at the beach.

This was a wonderful, easy book read. The story was quick and to the point...the author didn't waste time on unnecessary information, but there was nothing lacking in the story either. A very enjoyable book.

A very sweet story of sisters struggling to survive post-Civil War and the dress that inspires their hope.

Julia and Victoria Atwater were barely brides before their husbands marched off to fight in the Civil War. Now alone, with scarcely enough money to see them through until spring, they embark on an impetuous mission to bring joy back into their youngest sister's life. 17 year old Claire has always wanted to be married. And though she has no intended groom, her sisters decide to sew her a wedding gown. A hauntingly beautiful story with a powerful message teaching us how to leave the past and look to the future. - Back Cover
