Cal Lavender's mother has an episode which forces her to move to the "Pumpkin House" where her life - or rather what is NOT her life - becomes something new. Her adventures with new girls - nothing like her but everything like her - and the "Knitting Lady" teaches her a lot about who she really is and life in general.
A great book for teens, especially adopted or orphaned teens, or those who might wish they could get away from their parents. There is a story within the story that keeps these "Pumpkin House Girls" hanging on through some tough times. First audio book I've heard with a full cast - very neat and easy to tell the characters apart with the varying voices. Draws you in and keeps you thinking, even after the book is finished. Includes a brief instructional about knitting by the Knitting Lady at the end and a preview for another full cast audio book.
