Have you read a chic lit book that you couldn't stand or couldn't finish it? |

Strapless by Leigh Riker I thought this was the worst chick lit book i have ever read. The premise was interesting, a Victoria's Secret type store owner going to Australia to open a branch there...but the story was horrible. All the lead character and the male lead in the first 4 chapters was have sex...and have simultaneous orgasms EVERY SINGLE TIME. And then the guy keeps fantasizing about pregnant women, lactating breasts and swollen with child bellies. He just wanted her barefoot and pregnant all the time! Horrible Horrible Horrible. How is this chick lit??? I think this book is just a romance novel disguised as chick lit to trick unsuspecting readers to pick it up. I couldn't even finish this book. usually i love all the Red Dress Ink books but this was was just terrible. |

hm...the orgasm part sounds pretty good LOL! was there really any ' romance' to it though? I mean like a relationship at all other than 'keep her pregnant'..somehow pregnant turns me off even to the romance LOL! |

well like i said i couldn't get past the first few chapters. it seemed like all they were doing was having sex and him fantasizing about her being pregnant. it didn't even seem like they were really into each other. maybe something happened later on in the book but i just couldn't finish it |

I don't know if its exactly chick lit but I hated "the accidental virgin" it was just a bout a woman who runs around trying to have sex, and the copy I got stunk like someone had doused it in perfume, i had to air it out before I read it. |

I am a huge fan of chick lit, but what I really couldn't stand was the rash of post Bridget-Jones chick lit that had absolutely no substance and weren't even that well written. No specific titles come to mind right now but I will say that I was turned off of any book printed by Red Dress Ink for awhile because they seemed to print the sorts of books that I am talking about. All of the plots were identical and the characters unrelatable. I have just recently picked up a book called The World According to Mimi Smartypants which is a Red Dress Ink book that is really good and very well written with an interesting lead character - so maybe their standards have improved! Edited to add: Argh! I just double checked, and The World According to Mimi Smartypants is actually Avon Press, not Red Dress Ink. So...my ban on Red Dress Ink books continues, I guess! Unless anyone has a good one to recommend. Last Edited on: 9/5/07 9:03 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I think it was the 2nd Shopaholic book... it's not that is was completely terrible, it just didn't engage me at all. I think I misplaced it and then just never looked for it! |

I am currently reading "Mine are Spectacular" and am very bored. The characters are older than I am, so I keep thinking that maybe I just cannot relate. I am going to try to finish it, but I may not. I even reposted it, figuring if it got picked it was s ign it was not for me to finish. |

Reality TV Bites. That is one of the worst books I have ever read. I enjoyed this book but I know that not everyone likes all books. Of course it has been a bit since I read it but I do remember that I didn't hate it or not finish the book |

Alphabet Weekends. It was a fun idea, but there was just too much going on with all the other characters that was hard to keep track of and took away from what I thought was the main storyline. Last Edited on: 9/21/07 4:18 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I agree Bridget!! I wanted to like Alphabet Weekends - cute premise - but there was so much that didn't need to be there. I didn't really care for You Have to Kiss a Lot of Frogs by Laurie Graff - it was soooooo long and there were parts that left me wondering, "Why was that even part of this?" Plus the lead just seemed...fake. |

Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes: I expect chick-lit to be a little shallow but this was too much! There was nothing to like about any of the characters. I couldn't feel compassion for any of them and I could care less what happened. |

24 Karat kids by Judy Goldstein. I hated it so much that I finished it purely to write a scathing Amazon review.

I hated "Shopaholic Ties The Knot" (Sophie Kinsella). I always know that BB is shallow but she is so transparently shallow in that book. Also, I hated the later Stephanie Plum books (#11 & #12). Last Edited on: 9/29/07 11:36 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Trading Up by Candace Bushnell. Actually it started with 4 Blondes, which was 4 stories in one. Then one story got spun off and I just couldn't get into it. It was like trying to read the Times upside down. I just couldn't make sense of it! I only got through the first few chapters and gave up. |
