I just finished Soul Deep by Lora Leigh and while I usually don't care for her stories- purple prose and H/h that really seem to dislike each other- this one is a keeper for me. The H is all Alpha- kind of cold and possessive, but very caring underneath (my favorite) and the h is not some shrinking submissive. She knows what she wants and likes and is not going to let her man's distance ruin their relationship. It's a short book for Leigh, so everything has to happen in a hurry- but to me that's a plus. Too many times while reading her books I've thought 'enough already!' so this is just enough.

Also just finished Prized Possession by Madison Hayes. It contains two stories of women who are captured and I was all ready for the usual type of conflict and resolution until I got into the second story. I was so surprised at how  this story affected me. It had a great heroine- she was a woman with a plan who would see it though no matter the cost to her- and two brothers whose love for each other Hayes expresses so well in their interactions. The story itself had some humor, tragedy, and some seriously hot scenes between the three of them. This is definitely a keeper!

I keep meaning to ask, what does a purple prose mean?  I keep reading about it in reviews...

I am almost done with The Warlord by Elizabeth Elliott.  I've heard so much about this book over the years and just picked it up two days ago.  If I didn't have to work, I would've finished it in a day.  This book feels like a mix between a Julie Garwood's historical (must read if you like her heroines) and a Judith McNaught's medieval romance.   If you're a fan of either, I am sure you'll like this, old school goodness of a romance novel.

Tina- it's when a writer ventures into the ridiculous when describing their characters behavior- in Lora Leigh's case it's her sex scenes. Youtube has a video with different college students reading 'sexcerpts'  from ' Forbidden Pleasure' by her. Very funny.

Susanna, the "Prince" books by Jeffries are pretty good. I think you have the first one there -- I liked the other two better but I kept all three.

I've managed to finish up almost everything I've been trying to get through, think I will relax with a Greek Tycoon and his Blackmailed Bride for awhile then maybe start a recent historical. I have tons of newish stuff I haven't even had a chance to look at!

I finished up Lawless by Diana Palmer - yes Susanna its Palmer not Roberts - and it was terrific.  I think its the best Palmer I've read.  Yeah, he still said some really hurtful things to her and for the life of me I can't figure out why she has to have such age differences (she's 21, he's 34 - and there was also a 38yo man she was with for a time) but overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10.  The build-up to them getting together was really good.

Now I'm about to start on Highland Rogue by Tess Mallory - its a time travel.

ETA started Abiogenesis by Kaitlyn O'Connor also.

Just zipped through Lawless, too--like Sherri said, this is a good one.  (I've shied away from reading Palmer recently because I really disliked the last couple I'd read by her--Iron Cowboy, I think, and a few in the same vein.  Ugh.)  Curious to read Renegade now...

Ok, I did it- woohoo!  I finished Highland Knight!  It did actually get better, so I'm glad I stuck with it.  I still favor her previous two books much more than this one, but Lynne was right, the ending was great.  I'm going to start Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner next- it's been awhile since I read Good in Bed, so hopefully it will come back to me as I read.

ok, I'll have to pull Lawless out of hiding. I went back to the sticky thread at the top of the page and found my entry for the Palmer book I read and the comment I added

"The Rawhide Man - Diana Palmer - typical alpha asshole male from the 80's...can't believe I read this one! "so I reckon this one didn' t sit well with me LOL!

I'm reading 'My Sister is a Werewolf' by Kathy Love now...not enjoying it as much as the other 3 in the series (Young Brothers, they're vampires) but she's a different character and, well, honestly after reading Accidental Werewolf it's hard to read something else! that book was so funny...

I have some other books here at work with me so may switch to either a mystery next or one of the historicals if I can narrow it down! hoping we wont' be too busy this weekend but you never know around here..

Just finished the Callahan Brothers Trilogy by JoAnn Ross - someone here recommended them and I found a 3fer at the book store. I liked them! I hadn't read Ross before. Blue Bayou, River Road and Magnolia Moon. Now I'm starting Kathleen O'Reilly's O'Sullivans, Shaken and Stirred is the first. And I'm listening to Nora Roberts' Hot Ice - what a kick to hear Anna Fields reading.

Finished The Accidental Werewolf.  Enjoyed it more than I expected (I tend to get really, really sick of paranormals).  I read Body Movers by Stephanie Bond.  It's ok, def not a romance.  I was expecting more humor (along the lines of Janet Evanovich), but it was more serious and at times downright depressing.  But I liked it enough to try the rest of the series.  Now I'm reading The Black Sheep and the Princess by Donna Kauffman.  So far, so good.

Is Black Sheep and the Princess the first in that series? I loved Accidental Werewolf! I like paranormal ok so long as it' snot too 'out there' and it's light, funny, and/or romantic.

ok to try to settle down to read some!

I can't seem to read *anything* today! My office is littered with half read books. Even breaking out of the genre doesn't seem to help. I think it's movie night. :-\

Well I just finished 'My Sister is a Werewolf' by Kathy Love. I haven't felt to focused on reading tonight..think I ate too much sugar! This one wsn't all that great at the beginning but I got into it more as it went on. I liked her brothers' stories better, esp the first 2, but this was still good and finished the series.

I think I may start a historical romance next.maybe In the Prince's Bed or what I assumed was historical but dont' think it is LOL -The Seduction of HIs Wife by Janet Chapman.it was in the historical section at the ubs but oh well I think I'm gonna start it and see how it goes...I'm tired but still have close to 2 hours to go...

ETA: I decided to start' The Seduction of His Wife' by Janet Chapman. I see what one review meant by her quoting scenes from another of her novels! especially I just requested the 2 books in that series LOL but that doesnt' bother me really..so far I'm enjoying the story but I'm only about 50 pages into it.

I just finished The Scarlet Spy by Andrea Pickens, the 3rd in her series.  It was ok.  The series started strong with The Spy Wore Silk but neither the 2nd or this last book has measured up in my opinion.  In this book - I didn't really believe the love between the H/H and towards the end, I was surprised the heroine didn't become suspicious during a certain part.

I'm actually down in New Orleans at K-Con (Sherrilyn Kenyon's convention) and there's a bookswap so this book will be hopefully swapped for something better.

I'm reading what I think might be the single most maddening romance ever written! Love's Choices by Penny Jordan.  The plot is incredibly Old Skool--the hero kidnaps and rapes the heroine for revenge, then rapes her again out of jealousy--but it's like she tried to write an Old Skool romance with a modern consciousness, because he's always spouting all this senstive guy talk which is completely ludicrous in light of what he actually does. The heroine ponders this incongruity once or twice, but for the most part the incredbly hypocrisy of it all is left unacknowledged. Crazy-making!

I think The Black Sheep and the Princess is the first.  At least it's the earliest one my library has (they have 3, this one has earliest pub date).

I may have to try Love's Choices cuz I'm curious how she writes that way.  Although it sounds like she's not pulling it off.

well I think I'll skip Love's Choices! It's amazing how back in my late teens and early  20s I read those bodice rippers and thought the forced sex was sexy and romantic and now I like the woman to kick the guy's a$$ whe he needs it! guess I've bit*hy in my middle years!

I'm over 1/3 through 'The Seduction of His Wife' by Janet Chapman and am enjoying it! I was aiming for at least 100 pages before I went to bed this morning and got a little past that so hopefully I'll finish it at work tonight if we dont' get busy(and lay low on the sugar so I'm not so jittery!) I'm really liking this one so far..the guy bugged me  kicking her out of the house but I'm willing to give him another chance..I don't like guys who yell either so gonna see if she straightens him out. I also  ordered another 2 book series by her as well as have the sequel to this one ordered. I need to organize my s helves and see which of her highland books I'm missing..I know I bought at least 1 at ubs a while back because it sounded interesting but didn't know the order they went in and some of the covers look similar and of course the titles sound similar! but no hurry since I have more than enough to read from other series I've collected like a mad woman!

I just finished The Mistress Diaries by Julianne Maclean.  As briefly as possible: it sucks:P  Don't bother.  The story starts off with a one night fling between the H&H, a widow and a dissolute rake.  It's supposedly a somewhat more profound encounter than he's accustomed to, but he still picks up his shoes and tiptoes out the door in the morning.  She shows up at his family home in the country a year later, gravely ill, with his infant daughter.  It seems she's been told by a quack doctor that she's dying of consumption, and she's come to beg his family to raise their child after she dies.  Mr. Not-so-wonderful is there with his new fiance; his dad the duke (who's nuttier than a Payday bar, btw) is demanding that all of his sons marry by Christmas or they won't receive an inheritance, and dad has handpicked the fiance himself - and yes, of course she's completely horrid:P  Hero sees the heroine & freaks out, falls in love with his daughter at 1st sight, and installs them both in the dower house until he can figure out what to do with them.  I'm not sure I need to say much else from there.  The rest of the story is about as sadly contrived and boringly predictable as the beginning.  It never gets better or more interesting, it just goes on.  I'd say it rates about a C-, if that.  Seriously not worth the trouble.

Just finished Lori Wilde's Addicted to Love - it was an okay contemporary romance, not really great & not really bad.   I thought the first 2 in series were better...might just be my mood :)    I need to rummage thru TBR and decide what to read next, might just need a change of pace - either go for a hot erotic or dig out The Accidental Werewolf for the laughs!

Rose I have to second ya on Prized Possession by Madison Hayes.  I thought about that book for a few days after I finished it.  If I kept books, it would have been a keeper.

I just finished Naughty Little Secret by Shayla Black and a few other books for swaps.  I'm taking a few days off from reading much to my husbands joy!

Finished Abiogenesis. by Kaitlyn O'Connor. It was great, combining my first love, science fiction, with romance and erotica! What more could a girl want?  Ready to start the next volume, but going to finish No Rest for the Wicked first.
