Hey all! If i run a 2-for-1 sale, so to say...how much do you pay (appx.) for postage??? Is it really a good way to move books to get credits, moneywise? Just wondering! Thanks!!! Last Edited on: 4/27/09 7:38 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I've found it really doesn't add that much postage, maybe 30 cents for chapter books., less for kids books. |

My thoughts are that there are two perspectives on all this PBS swapping stuff: One is that you have all these books you want to get off your shelves (for credit) with the intent of swapping for other ones, trying new authors etc... (knowing that books that are less than 6 months of being published probably won't be posted for awhile). Postage is certainly a factor - I spend $15-20 a week on postage - that includes credit requests and box-o-books. Adds up, but I have about 50-60 books in my "new library" that I choose from every time I finish a book. (I read about 1 book a week). The other concept is that you can buy credits for $3 -$3.50, and request books (again realizing the newer published books won't be available for awhile), and have no postage costs, as the sender pays to get it to you, so they can get credit. I guess the choice involves if you want to keep your books you've read, hand them off to co-workers, donate them or whatever.......... OR 'pay it forward' as I tell myself, so other book hounds like yourself can enjoy new authors at little or minimal cost. Both options are wonderful choices!! |

Media mail postage is by the pound. It depends on the books you are sending together how much the postage changes. I have an order for 6 books going out today, the box weighs almost 3 pounds so it will cost me $2.93 to ship it. I am going to use online delivery confirmation that will add 18 cents, so I will pay $3.11 total. I have someone considering 5 books that weigh 4 pounds so those would be $3.28 for the postage. I do not use PBS postage. I work at the Post Office, so I am there nearly everyday. If I want DC, I print a label through paypal or the USPS shipping assistant and get the discounted rate. I have plenty of credits right now, so the instant credit is not important to me. I think the PBS system works great for mailing labels but you need to check your weights if you are using it to print postage. Rates until May 10, 2009.......http://www.usps.com/prices/media-mail-prices.htm Rates starting May 11, 2009.....http://www.usps.com/prices/_csv/may112009/Media%20Mail%20-%20Retail.csv Darn format changes when posting!
