The best Dortmunder book I have read and I have read all but one of them. This one is unique because in it he can do no wrong!! Of course the one where he steals the bank is my second favorite

This series is great! And you don't have to read them in order to enjoy them.

Very enjoyable read! And, even though the main character is a thief you root for his success in regaining his honor.

Westlake spins a reverse on his main character John Dortmunder. John receives a 'lucky' ring from his girl friend,May. But John's luck runs out when he's caught in what was supposed to be an empty corporation retreat penthouse in Carrport,Long Island by it's owner, billionaire Max Fairbanks. But it's Max who has stepped over the line when he he steals Dortmunder's lucky ring. Now as Max is laughing all the way to his next board meeting wearing Dortmunder's ring, John is having his own meeting with his gang. John wants his ring back,it's matter of honor. And John and his gang is heading straight for the billionaires many plush houses. From Manhattan to Las Vegas, they're going to rob Fairbanks blind until they get that lucky ring. After all "What's the Worst that could happen?.
The narrative is laconic and fast, the jokes constant, fresh, and funny. This is Westlake at his funniest mystery/comedic best. Gery
